14/01 2011: Drugs and Addictive Substances Unfortunately, drugs continue to be intimately related to violence and individual freedom restrictions. To solve these problems, Jerry Lee suggests an approach that does not only take into account the moral value of the law, but also Friedman's liberalization approach on drugs. This means, that while the law must illegalize the possession (without a current receipt), the distribution (outside licenced outlets), or the consumption of soft and hard drugs in public, a window must be opened for individuals who need their Non-Shared Freedom (NSF). This freedom is about the right for any adult to self-destroy or commit suicide. As such, the NSF allows adults to use hard and soft drugs at home, if these are alone or among other adult consumers. Furthermore, local authorities must draw policies that change the image of drugs being recreational. Instead, converting drugs into a product of necessity and make them accessible through any legl outlet while inciting consumers to use drugs only at home will reduce the demand of the product while increasing the offer. The result is situation where drug traffickers go out of business because of reduced profit margins on the sale of the product. Issues on fundamental individual rights are addressed as public health and safety concerns are met. To ensure that drug use does not occur or affect any member of the 'healthy' community, a system of social control must renumerate those who incidentally spot illegal drug use. Legal drugs such as nicotin or alcohol are only legal, because they are part of a social culture. But this should not leave their possession, distribution and consumption unrestricted. In fact, local authorities should slowly recognize them as hard drugs that deserve to be treated the same way as other drugs. |
15/12 2007: Prostitution Jerry Lee will not accept prostitution or the use of prostitution as an answer to Society's need for comfort, because the OECS in which we live cannot guarantee free consent, or ensure that the trade of sex is done without a violation of the prostitute's right to intimacy or private sphere. Since a violation to the private sphere leads to psychological relapses, the very development of the individual is put into brackets, which violates human dignity. Therefore, in a world where prostitution is marginalized, but never condemned because of its so-called role in Society, Jerry Lee stands up and says: the trade of prostitution is unworthy, we no longer want it to play any kind of role in our modern society! Those organizing and financing prostitution such as pimps and customers musst be prosecuted for mistreating individuals that are victims of our financially-driven society. Brodels and anything leading to or promoting prostitution like publicity on the sale of sexual activity musst be prosecuted, condemned and shut down. Ex-prostitutes should be given a lasting opportunity to live a life that provides for more self-esteem, the chance to gain physical and psychological attachment, which is needed to anyone's normal development. Eventually, Jerry Lee recommends Society to work on alternative solutions by which people can freely express and satisfy their psychological and physical needs for comfort. |
