15/12 2007: Drugs and Addictive Substances
Supporters for a legalization of soft drugs think that the consumption, trafficking and the violence derived from the drug business could greatly diminish, if drugs were put legally on sale like any other addictive product. By contrast, Jerry Lee thinks that drug consumption and violence would only increase should soft drugs be legalized. First, they would be made more accessible; and second, the law would send wrong signals. Knowing the destructive effects of drugs on individuals, Jerry Lee firmly believes that Society as a whole would be worse off legalizing them. This said, Jerry Lee aproves the legal consumption of any drug in therapeutic cases, that is, when patients suffer from physical pain. Soft drugs derived from nicotin or alcohol are a part of social culture, and therefore well tolerated. But this should not leave their consumption unrestricted. In fact, public authorities show an increasing awareness of the dangers of such drugs on public health. More laws regulating the consumption of these drugs set a trend, which Jerry Lee wishes to see hold on, because it makes it clearer that soft drugs like Marijuana should never be legalized. Reflecting on why some insist on legalizing drugs, Jerry Lee sees a need for people to escape from reality in search for confort. One way to satisfy these needs is simply to better exploit and develop existing sources of confort, those that do not damage health. |
15/12 2007: Prostitution
Jerry Lee will not accept prostitution or the use of prostitution as a morally acceptable lifestyle and as an answer to Society's need for comfort, because the OEC System in which we live cannot guarantee free consent or ensure that the trade of sex is done without a violation of the prostitute's right to intimacy or private sphere. Since any violation to the private sphere may lead to psychological relapses, the very development of the individual may be jeopardized, which, in turn, leads to a violation of the right to human dignity. Therefore, in a world where prostitution is marginalized, but never condemned because of its so-called role in Society, Jerry Lee stands up and says: the trade of prostitution is unworthy, we no longer want it to play any kind of role in our modern society! Those organizing and financing prostitution such as pimps and customers musst be prosecuted for mistreating individuals that are victims of our financially-driven society. Brodels and anything leading to or promoting prostitution like publicity on the sale of sexual activity musst be prosecuted, condemned and shut down. While condemning the use of prostitution, Jerry Lee recognizes some individuals to have severe mental and/or physical disabilities. In these rare cases, prostitution converts into sexual assistance, an act of altruism, that should be regulated and financed by the by the State. Ex-prostitutes should be given a lasting opportunity to live a life that provides for more self-esteem and a meaning to life, the chance to gain physical and psychological attachment, something needed to anyone's normal development. Eventually, Jerry Lee recommends Society to work on alternative solutions where ex-customers of prostitution and anybody else can freely satisfy their psychological and physical needs for comfort. |
