International Sanctions, policy 009.96

  • To use sanctions against states unwilling to cooperate for peace and the relief efforts of natural disasters voted by the UNSC
  • To use sanctions only after negociations with these states have failed

  • To lift sanctions when states shift their policies towards peace and humanity

Drawing the limits

Dictator Kim Jong II of North Korea

Opponents say economic and political sanctions do not work, because they isolate rogue states at the cost of their people. What they don't say is they have strong economic and political ties with the affected states, which makes any change in diplomatic stances on their part a very difficult task, even if it's in the best interest of global peace. This is what gw calls Egopolitics.

Jerry Lee thinks that sanctions are important. They signal the political limits between acceptability and challenging attitudes that threatens global peace. Sanctions are the backbones of international law.

Nations have witnessed the devastating effects of global Terrorism on their economies. And so, more than ever before, national interests strongly depend on how security and peace issues are dealt with in the world, which leaves little room for egopolits.

Gw begs rogue states to cooperate against global terrorism, for peace and social development, all the while demands the UNSC, G20 or any international organization with political and economic power to respect the national sovereignity of states for as long as they strive to protect the liberties of their own citizens.
