05/12 2007: Pro-Choice
It's a woman's natural choice to have a child, which means it should also be her choice to abort undesired pregnancies. Jerry Lee addresses the issue of abortion with the word choice to which both a sense of responsibility and dedication is linked. With no choice, a mother may bring up her child as a punishment to herself, which may expose it to guilt or abnormal psychological development. On the other hand, a well-thought and freely-made decision on her side is a guarantee for affection and true commitment to a child's needed psychological development. For these reasons, Jerry Lee is a pro-choicer, and agrees that pregnant women should have the right to abort anytime until the 26th week, a point when higher functions of the fetus' brain are activated and the fetus becomes a sentient being. After the 26th week, an abortion should be possible to protect the mother's health. This said, Jerry Lee wishes Society to take particular care that all pregnant women are well informed about the possible financial and health implications of abortions and those linked to the birth of a child, including post abortion or birth syndromes. When abortions are needed, they should be practiced at an as early as possible stage in the cycle of gestation. |
